Comp Admissions/Tickets to Postseason events held on-campus in conjunction with Official Visits

February 29, 2012

Here are a few quick reminders on NCAA rules and restrictions regarding tickets/admissions to postseason events being hosted on an institution’s campus (e.g., Big Ten Wrestling Championships at Mackey, NCAA Women’s Basketball 1st & 2nd round games):

Prospects may not be provided with complimentary admissions to a postseason conference tournament per 13.6.7.2.2 or to an NCAA Championship event per 13.6.7.2.3; however, they may purchase such tickets in the same as the general public (e.g., purchase a ticket at the Mackey ticket window).

Prospects on an Official Visit – It is permissible to use student host money to purchase tickets to a postseason event held on Purdue’s campus (postseason conference tournament and/or NCAA championship event) for a prospect on an official visit, provided the tickets are purchased in the same manner as the general public.

Student Hosts – It is permissible to use student host money to purchase tickets to a postseason event held on Purdue’s campus (postseason conference tournament and/or NCAA championship event) for a student host (a student-athlete that is acting as a student host for a prospect’s official visit). Remember: only one (1) student host per prospect on an official visit.

Other Student-Athletes (not acting as a student host) – It is not permissible to use student host money to provide expenses to student-athletes that are not acting as a student host for a prospect’s visit. Thus…it is not permissible to use student host money to purchase tickets to a postseason event held on Purdue’s campus (postseason conference tournament and/or NCAA championship event) for any other student-athletes (students that are not acting as a student host for the visit).
